Who am I? Sarah Sharpe has grown up as a carpenter’s daughter, knowing only the rough and work-heavy world of her father’s blue-collar profession. Abandoned by her mother as a baby, she’s lived 21 years content to drive nails at her dad’s side. Following her father into the world of construction was a natural path, and she took it without a second thought, but a harsh comment about her “butch” appearance sends her on a search for identity. Enter handsome and easy-going Jesse Chapman, the roofer she meets on her first foray into volunteer work for Homes For Hope. In every way, the quirky man is her opposite—confident, a people kind of guy, and most importantly, happy. His likable qualities continue to draw her in—and for some reason he keeps coming back to her. But they can’t be more than friends; he’s made that crystal clear. Except for a handful of times… and the confusion is driving her crazy. Sarah’s quest for self-definition becomes more tangled than she ever imagined, and she discovers that the journey will take her deeper than clothes and makeup. Filling the void in her heart becomes an obsession she cannot escape. How far is she willing to go to discover who she really is?

My Thoughts:
The Carpenter’s Daughter delves into the quest all individuals have to seek purpose and worth posing the story within the insecurities of a woman who has had her very womanhood challenged by insensitive bystanders. Jesse’s gentle guidance, genuine concern, and patience as Sarah explores the truth of the Gospel was a sweet testament of his friendship toward her and his hopes that she would find peace in Jesus. Rodewald also did a fine job presenting Jesse’s struggles as he fought his romantic feelings toward Sarah while she was still an unbeliever. Sweet story with a good message.

The Carpenter Daughter Jennifer Rodewald 9780692654545 Books Reviews
This book is so beautiful. It deals with inward vs outward beauty, love, boundaries, loss, redemption and then some. I was hooked from the first sentence to the last. The Gospel is quietly woven throughout. The proceed with caution is because the author does not shy away from reality, and the reality is that we live in a fallen, broken world. Sin abounds, and while the book is not inappropriate, sin is correctly portrayed temptingly beautiful but full of harsh consequences. I feel that younger readers need a trusted mentor to discuss some of the heavy times/themes. Nonetheless, the real romance in this book is tender and sweet. I really enjoyed this book. I believe readers who loved Francine Rivers' Redeeming Love will enjoy this one.
I loved this book. I preordered this book as soon as I got the email and that says alot because I rarely buy books. I must love the author or its KU. So I one clicked and the book is great and on my list to reread again and again. I have asked myself who I am or am I really who God has created me to be? Am I living a vision of myself or the vision of how the Creator of the universe sees me? I like that you go thru the struggle with Sarah and you can relate to her experience. I am not in construction but I have been affected by the comments someone has made about me. I have been like Jesse where I want things to go the way I think but later realizing His way is so much better. Great book. Highly recommend this book and others by the author. This is the longest review I've ever posted and I feel like I haven't said enough.
As a carpenter, Sarah Sharpe knows if lines aren’t straight, it messes things up. So she meticulously works to keep everything in line—including her life. All goes well on the job, but when she overhears a woman in a fast-food restaurant call her butch, Sarah finds her life twisting into a tangled mess.
Roofer Jesse Chapman thinks he’s just the man who can untangle all of Sarah’s problems, but he learns he has problems of his own. Unlike Sarah, Jesse quickly realizes if you try to untangle anything on your own, it only knots and entwines more. Only Jesus Christ can make things right.
Jennifer Rodewald illustrates this truth through three characters’ lives
Dale’s represents what ultimately happens when a person chooses to ignore God’s offer of love and protection.
Sarah’s represents a life headed in the wrong direction but that changes course when she allows God to do what only He can do make the crooked paths straight.
Jesse’s represents how a Christ-centered life—although not problem free—is the only type of life that satisfies a person’s deepest needs.
The following are some of the story’s themes
*We all seek to discover who we really are,
*Things aren’t always what they appear to be,
*Fear destroys relationships,
*Hiding from problems only makes things worse,
*Christ’s love doesn’t enslave people, but sets them free.
There’s no preaching here, so don’t bypass this novel because of the Christian message. If you do, you’ll be missing out on a heart-tugging story that will stick with you long after you turn the last page.
WOW. Such a moving story... arrived in my inbox today and I drove right in. Hadn't planned to read all day, but really was a good day to read, after a particularly sad and difficult week. The three main characters - alternately speaking in the first person, which in the past I didn't care for - each grabbed hold and I found myself tensely either rooting for or against or saying a prayer. Each one's search for self (tho one of them hasn't a clue he needs this) with the gracious love of GOD hovering over them is a trip worth taking. I'd love a follow-up story about Dale!
